Intune install application

  1. Download program you want to install (prefered .msi file) in this example we use firefox
  2. Download the Microsoft Intune prep-tool GitHub – microsoft/Microsoft-Win32-Content-Prep-Tool: A tool to wrap Win32 App and then it can be uploaded to Intune
  3. Prep your downloaded program, this is done with the prep-tool you downloaded in the previous step

Sidenote remove all spaces from the file name, this doesn’t work all the time

4. Open intune portal https://endpoint.microsoft.com/, go to apps, all apps, click on Add

5. Choose the kind of app you would like to add, we are going to use “Windows-app (Win 32)”

6. Upload the created .intenwin app from step 3

7. Set the app-settings and continue, if the uploaded file was an .msi most data is filled in

8. Fill install and uninstall commands (.msi mostly filled in)
9. Select the version details for your install
10. Create an detection rule
11. Select the groups where you would like to deploy the software to. This can be user groups
11. Create app

It could take 8 hours before your app is pushed to a running pc. Restarting the pc may speed up this process.

Check if computer will get an app

Find the device in endpoint manager, and click on managed apps
